Flood recovery efforts within the Gannawarra Shire will progress on Monday, 23 January with Gannawarra Shire Council coordinating the removal of sandbags from various locations throughout Koondrook.

Council staff and residents worked together in October 2022 to build temporary levees throughout the town, which protected properties and infrastructure from the rising Gunbower Creek and Murray River.

“Thanks to the dedication of our staff and residents, these sandbag levees helped protect properties from inundation, as well as enable major roads within Koondrook to remain open,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“With water levels in the Murray River and Gunbower Creek now at pre-flood levels, it is now the ideal time to remove these sandbags, enabling greater access to facilities throughout Koondrook.”

As part of the removal efforts, Council staff will be available to remove sandbags from residential properties within the Koondrook township. Residents wanting to access this service can do so by registering with Council by phoning (03) 5450 9333.

“To assist with this request, residents will be asked to determine how many sandbags they would like removed from their property, with staff to complete these requests following the removal of sandbags from public areas,” Mr Rollinson said.
