Koondrook waterfront works to begin

Works to link the Koondrook Central Business District and Koondrook Wharf to the Koondrook Nature Based Tourism Hub precinct will begin later this month.

Stage 3 of the Koondrook CBD redevelopment will begin on Monday, 20 April, and follow on from works completed between late 2019 and the first half of 2020.

“Koondrook residents and visitors to the town are already benefiting from the first two stages of the Koondrook CBD redevelopment, with improved pedestrian access between the township and the Koondrook Wharf a key feature,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“The third stage of these improvements will involve similar works occurring to Tramway Place, which links the town to the Koondrook Boat Ramp and the Koondrook Nature Based Tourism Hub precinct.”

Stage 3 works include the development of a shared user path extending from the Koondrook Wharf, along the Koondrook Goods Shed to the Gunbower Creek pedestrian bridge, which is currently under construction.

Tramway Place will also be sealed to improve vehicle access, with a roundabout to be installed to accommodate vehicles using the boat ramp.

“The design of the shared user path will provide a visual reference to the town’s historic tramway infrastructure thanks to the installation of timber sleepers in staggered intervals, whilst fencing and landscaping at the rear of the Koondrook Caravan Park will be improved,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“Areas where people can sit along the length of the shared user path will be developed, with additional vegetation to be planted throughout the precinct.

“It is anticipated these works will be completed by the end of June.”

Stage 3 of the Koondrook CBD redevelopment was identified as one of the major projects in the Gannawarra Waterfront Masterplan, approved by Council in 2019 following extensive community consultation.

“The Waterfront Masterplan aims to identify projects that will lead to strong economic development outcomes for the Gannawarra, maximising tourism, recreation, commercial and residential opportunities,” Mayor Learmonth said

Stage 3 of the Koondrook CBD redevelopment is supported by the Federal Government’s Regional Growth Fund.
