Professional horticulturist, garden designer, writer and broadcaster, Millie Ross (left) and seasonal risk agronomist, Dale Grey (right) headline two special community events occurring next month as part of the Let’s Talk About the Weather program.
Gannawarra Shire Council, Make a Change Australia and various local partner organisations have spent the past two months seeking residents’ perspectives regarding extreme weather events, such as flash or riverine flooding, storms and drought, and what can be done to lessen the impact these events have on communities.
“Thank you to all who have participated so far in the Let’s Talk About the Weather program, with facilitators already receiving excellent feedback regarding residents’ experiences and local solutions,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“Community pop-up session and conversations with various groups during August and September have already provided some fantastic ideas, and we look forward to seeing what discussions occur during these two special community events.”
Residents wanting to learn about how to develop positive green spaces will benefit from attending a free lunch occurring at Grow Collective, Kerang on Wednesday, 13 November from 12.30pm. Gardening Australia presenter and author, Millie Ross will be the main presenter at this gathering, which will celebrate local initiatives.
Those wanting to know how to manage during wet and dry weather periods will enjoy the advice provided by Agriculture Victoria seasonal risk agronomist, Dale Grey, who will be the guest speaker at the Living With Water community dinner. Occurring at the Big Cohuna Stockyard on Wednesday, 20 November at 6pm, this event will also outline how residents can adapt to changing weather conditions.
Local leaders in community garden development and adapting to weather conditions will also present at each event.
“It is great that Millie and Dale will be participating in these events, with their knowledge to inspire local solutions to changes to our weather,” Mr Rollinson said.
