Meals on Wheels hot meal deliveries to resume
Published on 05 June 2020
Residents who receive meals delivered to their homes as part of Gannawarra Shire Council’s Meals on Wheels program will receive hot meals five days a week from Monday, 8 June.
Run in partnership with Cohuna District Hospital and Kerang District Health, the Meals on Wheels program has continued during the Coronavirus pandemic, with Council staff delivering a combination of fresh and frozen meals since 30 March 2020.
“Council is pleased to manage this important community program, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“This program enables the delivery of more than 10,000 meals to residents in seven towns within the Gannawarra each year.”
As part of measures to ensure the safety of residents and Council staff during the Coronavirus pandemic, the delivery of meals will continue to be undertaken by Council staff at this time.
“Our Meals on Wheels program would not be possible without the dedicated group of more than 250 volunteers who regularly give one hour of their time to deliver a hot meal to residents,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“Council looks forward to welcoming our dedicated volunteers back to assist with this program when social distancing measures are relaxed.”
