Young people living in the Gannawarra can access details relating to employment skills, health tips and study advice via an online virtual space.

MyWarra – developed in 2017 with financial support from the VicHealth Bright Futures for the Young Victorians Challenge – has been rejuvenated to meet the needs of the current generation of the Gannawarra’s young people.

“The MyWarra project came about thanks to the dedication of previous Gannawarra Shire Youth Council members, who identified the need for a youth space within the municipality,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Following investigations, the Youth Council deemed a virtual space for young people would be beneficial, with the first generation of the web page developed during the 2017 Wired into the Warra intern experience.”

Council, with collaboration from Northern District Community Health, has rejuvenated the web page, providing up to date information about job opportunities, events, community engagement, homework support and health.

“The MyWarra page features information for young people about Coronavirus, with links to headspace and the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria content,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“There is also new sections of the website dedicated to life skills, finance and information to assist young people navigate requirements around medical cover and other insurance young people may need support with.”

Local young people are encouraged to visit www.mywarra.com, look at the resources available and have their say on what they want featured on this website.

“Young people are encouraged to provide feedback by leaving a message on the contact section of the website or searching for ‘My Warra’ on Facebook and leaving a message on this page,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“There is also a link to Mission Australia’s 2020 Youth Survey with Gannawarra’s young people encouraged to speak up about the issues they care about. Survey responses close on 14 August 2020.”
