Residents can now recycle their single-use agricultural plastic waste locally after the Cohuna and Kerang transfer stations were approved as official collection sites.

Gannawarra Shire Council, which manages both facilities, has worked with Agsafe to secure the bagMUSTER program for the municipality, building on the success of the Agsafe’s sister program, drumMUSTER.

“Our agricultural sector relies on single-use bags for fertilisers, seeds, grain, stock feed and pet food, which up to now would end up in landfill once used,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“By incorporating bagMUSTER into our growing agricultural materials recycling services, these single-use bags will be collected and turned into new product, which will reduce plastic waste and prevent harm to waterways, soil and ecosystems.”

Single-use polypropylene (PP) bags purchased from participating retailers after 1 October 2024 can be recycled as part of the program.

Residents wanting to use this service are asked to register their bags online at bagMUSTER.org.au and selecting either the Cohuna or Kerang transfer stations, then taking these bags to the selected site.

“We are proud to be one of the many municipalities across northern and western Victoria supporting this program, which has grown to 30 locations since its inception,” Mr Rollinson said.
