Work to replace the Apex Park Road bridge with a new concrete structure is nearing completion.

Residents and visitors to the region during the Christmas-New Year period benefited from the installation of a new concrete structure that enables vehicle access to the barbecue area and amenities at Apex Park, which have been closed to vehicles after the original bridge collapsed into Washpen Creek in July 2023.

“Enabling vehicle access to Apex Park was a welcome relief for residents and visitors who have not been able to experience this popular location for almost 18 months,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

Work will continue throughout January to seal the road approaches on either side of the bridge and install guardrails. A reduced speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour will be in place, with temporary closures to occur when required.

“Council thanks residents, visitors and motorists for their patience and looks forward to seeing this project completed as soon as possible,” Mr Rollinson said.

The construction of the Apex Park Road bridge, as well as the replacement of the Kervins Road bridge, form part of Council’s $29 million capital works program, with the works supported by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
