Repairs to flood-damaged sealed Council-managed roads begins

Work to repair various Gannawarra Shire Council-managed sealed roads damaged during the 2022 floods will begin this week, following State Government approval.
Repairs will occur along Benjeroop-Tresco Road from Wednesday, 6 November, made possible thanks to joint Commonwealth and State Government-funded Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
“Council welcomes confirmation that contractors will begin repairing local sealed roads damaged during the 2022 floods, which will bring some relief to residents across the municipality,” Council Acting Chief Executive Officer, Amanda Wilson said.
“Council continues to work with the State Government in relation to the approval and funding process to enable the repair of roads that were damaged by our second major flood event in 11 years.
“This process is unfortunately not a Gannawarra Shire Council-specific issue, with other municipalities impacted by the 2022 floods managing similar funding arrangement concerns.”
As part of the approved works, repairs will occur up to mid-January 2025 along Adamthwaite, Apex Park, Lalbert-Kerang, Murrabit West, Quambatook South and Suttie roads.
“Once completed, these repairs will make it easier for residents to travel to and from their properties via the quickest way possible, as well as provide greater connections between farming enterprises and services,” Ms Wilson said.
The repairs to Council-managed sealed roads will add to the growing list of repairs completed throughout the municipality, with work to rehabilitate unsealed roads currently occurring throughout Macorna, Tragowel and Mincha West.
Council is also working with contractors to confirm the timing of repairs to other roads in the municipality, including roads in the Appin, Dingwall and Koroop areas, as well as roads between Quambatook and Sandhill Lake damaged by flooding along the Avoca River.
Once works are ready to commence, regular updates will be provided informing of any road disruption, which will be kept to a minimum.
