Gannawarra Shire Council’s management of its road network will be guided by the latest version of its Road Management Plan, adopted at the November 2021 Council Meeting.

Reviewed every four years, the document assists Council to implement its duties as outlined in the Road Management Act, ensuring the standards and priorities in relation to the inspection, maintenance and repair of the roads and classes of roads to which the plan applies, are appropriate.

“Council has a duty of care to road users and the community to maintain all public roads for which it is responsible in a safe condition and to specified maintenance standards having regard to relevant government transport and other policies, and available funds,” Mayor Charlie Gillingham said.

A review process, conducted earlier this year, took into consideration various elements, including:

  • Changes to law and precedence set by court decisions;
  • A benchmarking exercise of service levels with neighbouring councils;
  • Performance of the road and footpath network;
  • Service level compliance;
  • Budget analysis; and
  • Community consultation.

“Council thanks all residents who took the time to review the draft version of the Road Management Plan during the community engagement period, that occurred in July,” Mayor Gillingham said.
