Sampson's Bridge replacement complete

Motorists travelling between Kerang and Leitchville are now benefiting from a new bridge spanning Pyramid Creek.
Leitchville-Kerang Road was re-opened to traffic on Thursday, 4 July following the completion of works to replace Sampson’s Bridge with a dual-lane concrete structure.
“The previous bridge enabled motorists to cross over Pyramid Creek for the past five decades, but due to the road being used to transport heavier loads than in the past, a new structure needed to be installed,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.
“Sampson’s Bridge is an important transport route for the area and region, particularly the dairy and agricultural sectors, providing a vital interstate and intrastate transport link for regional centres in northern Victoria and southern New South Wales.”
Works to replace the bridge began in mid-May following delays due to rain, with the project completed within the predicted eight-week timeframe.
“A reduced speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour remains in place either on side of the bridge for the time being,” Mayor Learmonth said.
“Council thanks residents and motorists for their patience as these works occurred.”
The bridge replacement works were supported by $471,350 from the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program.
