Second package of flood road repairs to begin
Published on 03 August 2023
Work to repair 10 Gannawarra Shire Council-managed roads damaged during the October-December 2022 floods will begin on Monday, 7 August.
The roads, located at Macorna, Macorna North, McMillans, Mincha West and Tragowel, form part of the second of 12 Council-developed works packages, supported by joint Commonwealth and State Government Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
“Council is striving to repair the more than 1,000 kilometres of flood-damaged roads and other infrastructure to a pre-flood standard, with advocacy efforts ongoing to reduce the delays in receiving government approval and funding,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“Work is occurring to gain approval for the remaining 10 road repair packages which will enable residents to travel to and from their properties once works are completed via the quickest way possible, and reduce impacts on rural enterprises.”
The second package of works, which includes maintenance grading and gravel re-sheeting, cleaning drainage structures, replacing a boxed culvert and re-instating a sealed roadway, will occur on the following roads:
- Hayden Lane, Tragowel
- Hubbard Lane, Macorna
- Love Road, Macorna
- Macorna-Pyramid Road, Mincha West
- Martin Road, Macorna North
- Mills Road, Macorna North
- Mowat Road, Tragowel
- Pettigrove Lane, McMillans
- Wishart Road, Macorna
- Yates Road, Macorna North
Regular updates regarding flood repair works will be provided via Council’s website, Gannawarra News, Gannawarra Connect and Council’s Facebook page.
Meanwhile, Council continues to advocate for repairs to occur along Regional Roads Victoria-managed roads in the municipality. These include the Loddon Valley Highway (B260), Murray Valley Highway (B400) and other local roads identified on maps or signage with a C2## prefix.
“These roads are important to the Gannawarra, as they connect residents and services to our major towns and other regional locations,” Mr Rollinson said.
“It is important that these repairs are completed as soon as practically possible to ensure ease of mind for our communities, many of which are still recovering from last year’s floods.”
