Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library will be closed between 12 noon Saturday, 15 March and 10am Monday, 24 March to enable repairs to be completed.

The closure will enable repairs to occur to sections of the Kerang-based library building that were damaged during the Christmas Day 2023 and early January 2024 storms and flash flooding that impacted the municipality.

“Council has been working closely with our insurers to ensure these works are completed in a timely manner and will have minimal impact on the library service,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“These repairs will preserve the library’s extensive collection of books, audiobooks, magazines and DVDs and reduce the risk of further damage in any future major rainfall event.”

During the closure, Gannawarra Library Service members can interact with the library in the following ways:

  • By visiting the service’s branches at Cohuna, Leitchville and Quambatook. Details regarding these locations and opening hours are available online at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/libraries
  • By accessing the service’s online catalogue and online resources. This includes Beamafilm, BorrowBox and hoopla. Details regarding these resources are available at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/libraries

“The Gannawarra Library Service thanks all members and visitors for their understanding as these much-needed repairs occur, and staff are looking forward to the reopening of this site on 24 March,” Mr Rollinson said.
