Works to improve access to the Cohuna Recreation Reserve will begin on Monday, 5 October, with motorists advised access to the town’s lawn bowls club, tennis club and RV camp site will be impacted.

Occurring as part of the $3.4 million Cohuna CBD and Waterfront Connections project, the works involve the closure of Tennis Road to enable the realignment of this popular road.

“Be it football, netball, little athletics, cricket, lawn bowls, swimming, tennis or the town’s annual Agricultural, Pastoral and Horticultural Society Show, this area of Cohuna is a popular area for families throughout the year,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“The realignment of Tennis Road will provide safer vehicle access, with the sealing of the road between Tennis Road and the Cohuna Recreation Reserve’s entrance to also occur as part of these works.”

Detours will be in place whilst these works are occurring, with the town’s lawn bowls club, tennis club and RV camp site accessible via the Cohuna Recreation Reserve second oval entrance.

“Motorists who use this detour need to be mindful of pedestrians utilising the town’s walking track, which passes through the reserve,” Mr O’Reilly said.

Parking within the town’s RV site will also be reduced whilst works occur, with a section of parkland to be used as a staging area.

“Council thanks the Cohuna community for their understanding when these works occur and looks forward to seeing residents and visitors benefiting from these improvements,” Mr O’Reilly said.

The Cohuna CBD and Waterfront Connections project is supported by the State Government’s $2.7 billion Building Works package, with initial projects identified as part of the Waterfront Masterplan process. Future works within the CBD precinct and connections to the Gunbower Creek will be determined with community input on the design over the coming months.
