Third sporting club to benefit from development opportunity

The Leitchville Gunbower Football Netball Club will become the third local organisation to work with Sports Focus to help identify issues and determine future priorities.
The club will join the Cohuna Golf Bowls Club and the Kerang Football Netball Club to benefit from the Gannawarra Community Resilience Committee-supported opportunity, which is one of numerous initiatives occurring to help the Gannawarra’s continued recovery from the 2022 floods.
“Thanks to the Gannawarra Community Resilience Committee, additional resources have become available to support a club that had applied for the initial round of the program in 2024 to undertake this successful initiative in 2025,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“The Cohuna Golf Bowls Club and the Kerang Football Netball Club are already benefiting from work undertaken, and we hope for the same success this time around.”
By participating in the six-month program, the Leitchville Gunbower Football Netball Club aims to develop an action plan to foster its growth as an inclusive place to participate and socialise.
“There is always room for continued improvement as a club and we hope the program will provide some impetus and new ideas for attracting new volunteers and easing the load on fatigued volunteers,” club Vice President, Matt Hawken said.
“Football-netball clubs take a significant amount of volunteer time from community members to operate successfully, and we want to reward these volunteers with opportunities to develop additional skills and feel a real sense of pride in contributing to their local community club.”
Funding for this opportunity is supported by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments under the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) as part of the Gannawarra Community Flood Recovery Program.
