Victoria Square wins
National Landscape Architecture Award

Media Release

The Australian Institute of Landscape Architecture (AILA) last night announced the winners of the 2018 National Landscape Architecture Awards on the Gold Coast.

Mayor Brian Gibson said Gannawarra Shire Council is excited that Victoria Square in Kerang was announced as a winner of the Landscape Architecture Awards in the Urban Design category.

“The National Landscape Architecture Awards celebrate leading projects of all sizes across Australia’s regional and metropolitan areas and it is a great honour to have Victoria Square recognised,” said Mr Gibson.

The nomination for the award was submitted by the architect company Hansen Partnership and follows Kerang’s Victoria Square Award of Excellence in Urban Design at the 2018 Victorian Landscape Architecture Awards announced in August.

“The design process and construction of Victoria Square was carefully considered through strategic studies, community engagement and design investigation and is now a space of community gathering and civic pride, complimenting key historical architectural buildings,” said Mayor Gibson.

In recent months Gannawarra has received a number of awards across the areas of architecture, arts and sustainability acknowledging Council’s commitment to economic diversity and community partnerships.

“This is an exciting time for Gannawarra and I hope these recent recognitions will bring new visitors and opportunities to the wider Gannawarra area.”
