Victoria Square's architectural accolade

The redevelopment of Kerang’s Central Business District continues to receive national attention, with the architects of the $1.158 million project presented with a Good Design Award last week.

Hansen Partnership, which designed the upgrade of Kerang’s Victoria Square, was presented with the Good Design Award Accolade in the Architectural Design category for its work in transforming a space previously dominated by vehicle movement and car parking into a pedestrian-orientated main street for movement and enjoyment.

The award jury praised the project, stating the area “has been reinvigorated as a place that elicits civic pride and promotes community use”, congratulating Council, the community and the project designers for undertaking a long engagement process to find an appropriate urban design solution.

“Since being officially opened in March 2018, Kerang’s residents and visitors have benefited from a space the community can be proud of,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Victoria Square has already hosted a number of community events since its rejuvenation, and the bespoke seating with shade umbrellas provides an area for shoppers to rest whilst experiencing what Kerang has to offer.”

The award is the third accolade the project has received, following on from receiving the Award of Excellence in the Urban Design category at the 2018 National and Victorian Landscape Architecture Awards.

“Council congratulates Hansen Partnership on the award, which is a credit to all who were involved in this project,” Mayor Learmonth said.
