Images that featured in the Gannawarra Flood Reflections Exhibition, which highlighted the community’s response to the 2022 floods, can now be viewed on Gannawarra Shire Council’s website.
The exhibition finished its tour of the Gannawarra last week, which saw 100 images taken during the Gannawarra’s second major flood event this century be displayed at Cohuna, Kerang, Murrabit and Quambatook.
“Council thanks all residents who contributed to this exhibition, which has provided a powerful, visual representation of the 2022 floods, as well as the many visitors to the locations where the exhibition was displayed,” Mayor Ross Stanton said.
“The exhibition is a permanent reminder of how the 2022 floods impacted our communities and how our residents responded to support each other and protect properties from inundation.”
As part of Council’s efforts to keep a record of the floods for historic purposes, a 16-minute video featuring all images that formed part of the exhibition has been developed and can be viewed online by clicking on the Gannawarra Flood Reflections Exhibition heading at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/floods
“Like the DVD that was produced following the completion of the exhibition developed from the 2011 floods, this video will be a way residents can reflect on the 2022 floods and keep a record for future generations,” Mayor Stanton said.
With the exhibition’s tour complete, Council staff will begin the process of returning all items to contributors as a thank you for their efforts.
“Providing each person who contributed to the exhibition with their images presented professionally is our way of thanking them for their efforts in preserving what was a historic event,” Mayor Stanton said.
The Gannawarra Flood Reflections Exhibition was funded by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments under the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) as part of the Gannawarra Community Flood Recovery Program.
