The Gannawarra’s major tourism information centre is looking for new volunteers to help promote the area’s attractions to visitors.
Located in Garden Park, Cohuna, the Gateway to Gannawarra Visitor Centre has been providing tourist information and community support for the past 12 years, with more than 7,000 people visiting the centre in 2023.
“Our dedicated Gateway to Gannawarra Visitor Centre volunteers are usually the first local people tourists see, and play a major role in ensuring visitors to the Gannawarra make the most of their time here,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“Our volunteers help to foster memorable visitor experiences, which is done by providing information on local attractions such as our renowned forests, lakes and wetlands, self-guided walks and eateries.”
The Gateway to Gannawarra Visitor Centre is currently open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 1pm Saturday and Sunday, with each volunteer shift consisting of only a three-hour period.
Positions are completely flexible, with volunteers able to assist as often, or as infrequently as they would like.
“As a valuable member of the tourism team, volunteers will be recognised for their commitment and involvement in the volunteer program through the annual volunteer function as well as tourism tours, opportunities to socialise and a coffee voucher for volunteers who help during public holiday shifts. The Gateway to Gannawarra Visitor Centre is also a great place to create new friendships and meet like-minded people,” Mr Rollinson said.
“If you have a good understanding of local knowledge and are passionate about promoting the Gannawarra region, then this might be the right volunteering opportunity for you.”
