One returning Councillor and six new representatives will make up Gannawarra Shire Council for the next four years following last month’s local government elections.

The Victorian Electoral Commission announced the outcome of the elections, held by postal ballot, earlier today.

All Councillors will be sworn in next Monday, 16 November and a meeting to elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor is scheduled for Monday, 23 November at 5.30pm.

“Council congratulates the seven elected representatives on their success and thanks all who sought election,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“The next 12 months will be an exciting time for the new Council, with the development of a Council Plan for the next four years, and the Gannawarra’s recovery from COVID-19.”

Charlie Gillingham was the only candidate to nominate in the Avoca Ward which covers Benjeroop, Lalbert, Lake Charm, Mystic Park and Quambatook, with 14 candidates nominating for election in the remaining three wards.

Kelvin Burt, Travis Collier and Jane Ogden were elected to represent the Patchell Ward, which covers Kerang, Macorna and Tragowel.

Keith Link and Garner Smith were elected to represent the Yarran Ward, which covers Cohuna and Leitchville, with Ross Stanton elected to represent the Murray Ward, which covers Koondrook and Murrabit.

“Council would like to take this opportunity to thank Jenny Fawcett and Steve Tasker, who were both unsuccessful in seeking re-election, for their services to Gannawarra Shire Council during the last term and wishes them well for the future,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Council also thanks retiring Councillors Lorraine Learmonth, Jodie Basile, Brian Gibson and Andrew Gibbs, who did not seek re-election, for their work during the last term.”
