Winning Sky Photos Exhibition coming to the Gannawarra

Residents will be able to view the works from some of Australia’s top astrophotographers when a travelling exhibition will be based at Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library this June and July.

Presented by the Central West Astronomical Society, the Museum of Applied Arts and Science and the CSIRO, the 2020 David Malin Awards Winning Sky Photos Exhibition features the top entries from this renowned astrophotography exhibition.

“The Gannawarra Library Service is pleased to have secured this exhibition from Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum, which comprises spectacular, award-winning photographs of the night sky from the last 24 months as judged by world-renowned astrophotographer Dr David Malin,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“This is also the first exhibition to be held at the Sir John Gorton Library since early 2020 following the implementation and subsequent easing of COVID-19 restrictions.”

The exhibition showcases 26 entries across the award’s six categories – Animation, Astrophotography with your Smartphone, Deep Sky, Junior, Nightscapes, Solar System and Wide-Field – with images featuring galaxies, nebulae, planets and landscapes.

“Anyone who has a passion for photography or astronomy is encouraged to visit this exhibition during its time in the Gannawarra and be inspired by some of Australia’s top astrophotographers,” Mr O’Reilly said.

The 2020 David Malin Awards Winning Sky Photos Exhibition will be on display at Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library from Monday, 7 June to Saturday, 31 July. Admission is free.
