Women from across the Gannawarra gathered on 7 March as part of the municipality’s annual International Women’s Day celebrations.

Around 60 people attended the annual Gannawarra International Women’s Day breakfast, held at Cohuna’s Morton Garner Pavilion.

Attendees enjoyed a free breakfast and coffee provided by local Cohuna businesses, The Hippie Harvest and Suzie Q, before hearing from the day’s guest speakers - Cohuna District Hospital’s Director Clinical Services, Wendy Lunghusen, and Koondrook indie rock singer/songwriter, Elise Drake.

“The Gannawarra’s International Women’s Day celebrations are a highlight of our local events calendar, and this year’s event was no exception,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is March Forward – it’s time to turn promises into progress, and both Wendy and Elise are examples of local women leading in their chosen careers.”
