Have your say on Council's Road Management Plan
Published on 02 July 2021
Residents are encouraged to have their say on the document that outlines how Gannawarra Shire Council’s roads are repaired and maintained.
Conducted every four years, the review of Council’s Road Management Plan ensures the standards and priorities in relation to the inspection, maintenance and repair of the roads and classes of roads to which the plan applies, are appropriate.
“As a road authority, Council has a duty of care to road users and the community to maintain all public roads for which it is responsible in a safe condition and to specified maintenance standards having regard to relevant government transport and other policies, and available funds,” Mayor Charlie Gillingham said.
The review process will take into consideration various elements, including:
- Changes to law and precedence set by court decisions;
- A benchmarking exercise of service levels with neighbouring councils;
- Performance of the road and footpath network;
- Service level compliance;
- Budget analysis; and
- Community consultation.
“Input by the community is the most important part of this process, as statistics continuously show that residents are the greatest users of roads within the Gannawarra,” Mayor Gillingham said.
The latest version of the Road Management Plan is available to download at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/roadplan. Residents wanting to make a submission can do so by 5pm Wednesday, 21 July by completing a form online at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/roadplan or by writing to Council at PO Box 287, Kerang VIC 3579.
“All feedback received will assist with the review of the Road Management Plan, which is to be presented at the September 2021 Council Meeting for consideration,” Mayor Gillingham said.
